Become a Faith Partner
Habitat-NYC’s Faith Partnership program Habitat-NYC is a faith-based housing ministry that welcomes people of all faiths to participate with us. In 2008, we are planning to engage new and diverse congregations in working for housing justice throughout New York City. We welcome any faith institution or group to sign up as a Faith Partner. Being a Faith Partner means that you agree to: Pray… for those in need of affordable housing and those advocating for more of it. Preach and Teach… about the housing crisis and what can be done to solve it. Volunteer… by building on a Habitat worksite. Give… through raising funds to build more homes. Advocate… for housing justice through our city, state, and federal advocacy campaigns. In order to participate in these different ways, we encourage our Faith Partners to assign a clergy or lay leader from the congregation to serve as a Volunteer Coordinator and another (or the same) person as an Advocacy Coordinator. The Volunteer Coordinator will coordinate all volunteer opportunities with Habitat-NYC and recruit members of the congregation to build with us at our current build site. The Advocacy Coordinator will coordinate all advocacy actions related to Habitat-NYC’s advocacy campaigns and will recruit members of the congregation to participate in advocacy-related events and actions. In signing up as a Faith Partner, Habitat-NYC will send a quarterly advocacy newsletter, regular advocacy action alerts, and invite you to Habitat-NYC events. To sign on as a Faith Partner or to get more information about our program, please contact Andrew Olsen, Faith Relations Associate, at (212) 991-4000, ext.320, or by e-mail at aolsen@habitatnyc.org.
