Brush with Kindness Site Leader

Position Description:

Habitat New York City’s Brush with Kindness (BWK) Site Leader directs Habitat NYC’s volunteers and future homeowners within our BWK community sites; they are an integral part of our painting team who work to ensure that all volunteers have a safe and meaningful experience while also overseeing and executing projects in an efficient manner in accordance with proposals and timelines.

Site Leaders are staff members on the BWK team and report to the BWK Site Supervisor.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide onsite orientation to Habitat NYC volunteers that includes overview of organization, tasks/building instructions for the day and comprehensive safety information.
  • Maintain the quality of the Habitat NYC volunteer experience by making sure that all volunteers are checked in through Volunteer Hub, providing orientation and a morning meeting, leading volunteers when necessary and providing training on the BWK site to ensure that all work is completed to Habitat NYC standards.
  • Monitor BWK sites for safety compliance and ensure safety protocols and procedures are followed.
  • Lead and develop creative design and direction for the drafting and execution of murals or landscaping as requested by clients.
  • Lead and instruct groups of volunteers in completing a project such as a large mural, landscape design, restoration etc. to completion within the guidelines of a proposal and timeline.
  • Monitor inventory of volunteer related tools and equipment and regularly report inventory needs to the designated REC staff member.
  • Ensure successful on site execution of fundraising and advocacy initiatives.
  • Painting responsibilities:
    • Organization and distribution of necessary tools and supplies for each day, such as ladders, paint, brushes, signage, etc.
    • Apply an outline of a design as well as instruct volunteers in applying paint to surfaces including canvas, walls, floors, doors, and cabinets.
    • The ability to scrape, spackle, sandpaper, prime, or seal surfaces prior to painting is preferred.

    • Clean up project site daily and ensure supplies are cleaned and ready for the next day.

Qualifications:

  • Fine Arts degree or related experience required.
  • Experience designing and/or creating various styles of mural work preferred. Photoshop or other design software experience a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in various styles of painting, drawing and collaborative design.

Skills required:

  • Strong public speaking and interpersonal skills required. Customer service experience preferred.
  • Basic painting skills required.
  • Ability to lift minimum of 20 lbs. and move equipment and furniture.
  • Able to work on ladders.

Location and Hours:

Varies depending on the project, and will always be within the 5 boroughs. This is a full time position Tuesdays through Saturdays (8am to 4pm), with the possibility of some Sundays.
