  • "Housing as a human right is a passion of mine, and as an AmeriCorps Alum, I have always been an advocate of holistic community development interventions. I truly enjoy the days when I can help construct or paint buildings with HYP members and other volunteers. There is such a positive energy and I get a sense of fulfillment from giving back to a city that I love."

3 Emojis That Describe You:

Why’d You Join HYP?: I was looking for opportunities to volunteer and get more involved in the community when I learned that Habitat NYC was starting a HYP chapter. As a native New Yorker who has worked with clients in affordable housing, I was already passionate about the issue, but unaware of Habitat’s local work. Learning about Habitat’s mission and interacting with homebuyers inspired me to get involved and I’ve been hooked ever since.

Why’d You Join HYP?: I originally got involved with Habitat back in NC, and when I moved to NYC, I was looking for a similar experience. Once HYP NYC was formed, I was excited to get involved on the ground floor of the organization. I love the feeling of accomplishment I get from build days and feeling like I’m investing in my community.

Why’d You Join HYP?:  My first build for Habitat was during a service trip back in college, an experience that moved me to focus my career around engagements that combine skills in business with a commitment to service—from working with a community development program run by the New York City Mayor’s Office to consulting for a United Nations NGO. Being able to work with the organization that first inspired this passion was an opportunity I wouldn’t dream of passing up.

Why’d You Join HYP?:  Habitat has been a part of my life since college when I first traveled to rehab homes in Mississippi following Hurricane Katrina. Since then, I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to volunteer through Habitat programs like Brush with Kindness, The ReStore, and most recently HYP. What drove me to increase my engagement with Habitat through HYP was the prospect of working with peers.

Why’d You Join HYP?: After exploring the possibility of joining a Global Village trip to Portugal, I decided to volunteer locally to get an idea of what to expect. The build happened to be a HYP build, and it was a great experience. I got involved from there.

Why’d You Join HYP?: I began volunteering with Habitat NYC as a student at NYU, got hooked pedaling across America with Bike & Build in 2004, strengthened my skills as an AmeriCorps site leader in 2007, and have since built with over a dozen Habitat affiliates from the US Gulf Coast to Ghana to Guatemala. I joined the Habitat NYC HYP board to have the opportunity to excite fellow young professionals about my passions for green building, affordable homeownership and urban sustainability in the greatest city in the world.
