  • "Housing as a human right is a passion of mine, and as an AmeriCorps Alum, I have always been an advocate of holistic community development interventions. I truly enjoy the days when I can help construct or paint buildings with HYP members and other volunteers. There is such a positive energy and I get a sense of fulfillment from giving back to a city that I love."

My journey with Habitat for Humanity started over thirteen years ago in Pacoima, California where my friends and I volunteered our weekends with Habitat and witnessed first-hand Habitat’s unique model around sweat equity (a hand up, not a handout) to provide affordable housing. I am passionate about leading the talented HYP NYC board, transforming the lives of hard-working New Yorkers in need of affordable housing, and advocating on behalf of these communities in partnership with government agencies and philanthropic donors.

Service has always been an important part of my life, from the work my parents did in West Africa when I was growing up to my involvement in community service during college. I feel like whatever your day job is, there’s always a way to leave the world a better place than it was before. I joined HYP NYC because I believe strongly in Habitat NYC’s mission of transforming lives and communities by building and preserving quality, affordable homes with families in need, and by uniting New Yorkers around the cause of affordable housing – and I want to do whatever I can to support it.

Habitat for Humanity has been a passion of mine for twenty years. Having recently discovered the cultural possibilities of Global Village trips, and a strengthened non-profit partnership with another Board I volunteer for, I wanted to continue to work with Habitat NYC in its Young Professionals board model to build out its legacy to hopefully be mimicked by other affiliates around the world.

My goal is to bring justice and decent affordable housing for families that need a safe and clean house so they can improve their lives, progress economically, and fulfill their dreams. I joined HYP since I have built with Habitat all over the world and I’ve seen the positive impact it has on communities in a myriad of contexts. The HYP board is fighting not only to bring awareness but also a real change advocating, fundraising and volunteering in our international and local NYC community.

Since I was little, I’ve always had a deep desire to be of service to others. Now, having fought hard to be in this city and it giving me so much in return, I wanted to be able to give back to my community, and give those individuals around me the helping hand they need to thrive.

The built urban environment has been a fascination of mine since I began college in NYC. Since then and through my graduate studies in San Francisco, I have grown to appreciate the unique assets that each neighborhood has to offer. As these neighborhoods transform, members of the community need a representative voice and champion. Habitat NYC provides that voice and the housing needs for residents neglected by NYC’s booming investment. I identify with this mission and the HYP NYC Leadership Board provides an excellent vehicle for raising awareness of the issues and funds for the mission.
