Habitat for Humanity - New York City

School and Youth Groups

Youth & Campus Chapters
Our Youth Programs provide an opportunity for youth ages 5-25 to build on our vision of a world without poverty housing. Though not all youth are able to volunteer on our sites, there are many ways to get your school or youth group involved in Habitat’s work:

Volunteer

Youth ages 14 and up can volunteer at our Brush With Kindness project sites and youth ages 16 and up can also volunteer on our Construction and Critical Home Repair sites.

Habitat NYC enforces chaperone requirements for school and youth groups. A 1:5 chaperone to volunteer ratio is maintained for all youth groups with volunteers under the age of 18. All volunteers under the age of 18 must print and complete a volunteer waiver with parental consent and the appropriate emergency contact information before coming to our project sites.

Raise Awareness & Funding

Have a long-lasting impact on the work of Habitat NYC. Even if you are too young to raise your hammer on our sites, you can start volunteering with us by raising your voice for Habitat!

Advocate with Habitat NYC: Educate your community, sign petitions, write letters to elected officials, join Habitat NYC supporters at rallies and sleep-outs, host a movie screening, and much more. Find out about our current advocacy work by clicking here.

Fundraise for Habitat NYC: Hold special events on your campus or in partnership with other organizations. The funds raised by students are vital to our work by supporting our current homeowners and creating affordable housing for all New Yorkers.

Campus Chapters and Clubs

Campus Chapters and school clubs are student groups that partner with Habitat for Humanity to build, fundraise for, advocate for, and educate their communities about the need for affordable housing. Contact us to learn about starting a club or chapter at your school.

Campus Chapters are officially affiliated with Habitat NYC. These groups receive year-long organizational support from the Youth & Community Programs Coordinator and have priority in certain Habitat NYC youth engagement initiatives and projects.
