Housing Preservation Program

Thousands of New Yorkers are at risk of losing their affordable homes, whether it be through debt, disrepair or the rising costs of building maintenance. Part of our mission as a holistic housing developer, is working to ensure the residents of these homes can remain and thrive in New York City for generations. Our Housing Preservation Program provides long-term, multi-generational housing solutions for low- to moderate-income resident homeowners.

The Housing Preservation Program is a multi-faceted program that provides services like:

Fairly priced construction or pro bono and renovation services
Fairly priced painting services
Roof repairs in preparation for solar panel installation
Training for co-op boards
Ethical financial lending

Habitat NYC is a general contractor that offers existing resident-owned affordable buildings (like HDFC co-ops) high quality construction services at a fair price. Habitat NYC’s Housing Preservation Program also offers these clients many pro bono construction services, including needs assessments, letter of recommendation, and scopes of work.

A Brush with Kindness

Our A Brush with Kindness program engages volunteers to paint the common areas, like lobbies, hallways and more, of existing affordable housing buildings. This work saves tenants of the buildings hundreds of dollars, and brightens the spaces, breathing new life into existing housing.
